The Stage IV Tour

MOVE OVER, #VANLIFE…

The #StageIVTour, my ‘bucket list road trip’, is slated to commence as early as January 2022. My plan is to try to cover as many of the 48 continental United States as I can, doing my best to write a guide for future #Teslacampers and EV road trippers as I go.

For health reasons - stage IV neuroendocrine cancer - I must return to the cancer center in New York at minimum every four weeks. (Sometimes it’s more frequent than that). Because of this it’s likely that my ‘road trip’ may have to occur in several stages. You can read more information about each stage here.

As I road trip through each state I will blog about my travels, and do my best to keep my social media updated, too - be sure to follow me! Eventually I will get to a point where it’s time to share what I’ve learned on the road. You’ll find that below - just click on a button for the state you are interested in (once said buttons begin appearing) and enjoy!

And, as always - sponsors and supporters wanted. If you’re one of them, thank you thank you thank you!!!

THE COTTON STATE

I am hoping to visit Alabama during the second leg of the #StageIVTour, tentatively slated for spring ’22. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trippers and #Teslacamping experiences. And, as always, thank you to those who choose to support the #StageIVTour and my ‘bucket list road trip’ - every dollar helps propel the dream.

(I may push all of this back based on COVID restrictions, attraction opening dates, and other factors). I plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trippers and #Teslacamping experiences. THE GOLDEN STATE

From road trips (the Pacific Coast Highway, Route 1) to camping right on the beach (Jalama Beach County Park, Sonoma Coast State Park in Bodega Bay), there’s so much for TeslaCampers to see and do in California! Attractions like Redwood National and State Parks, Yosemite National Park, the Santa Monica Pier, the Queen Mary - not to mention so many theme parks, aquariums, and museums! And don’t forget Old Hollywood - and, of course, the Tesla factory is there!

I am hoping to visit California during the third leg of my road trip. I plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trippers and #Teslacamping experiences. THE CONSTITUTION STATE

I visited Connecticut in August 2021 when I worked with Paulie’s Push as Paul Veneto, a retired United Airways flight attendant, pushed an airline beverage cart from Boston Logan Airport to Ground Zero to honor the flight attendants of 9/11. My Model 3 served as a ‘support vehicle’ through most of the state of Connecticut. I found it to be filled with amazing, welcoming people - but I didn’t get to see many of the sights the state is known for. I can’t wait to go back.

I am hoping to re-visit Connecticut during the first leg of the #StageIVTour, which may happen as early as January 2022. I plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trip and #Teslacamping experiences. If you’re from the state, or have visited in the past, I welcome tips and info - just email me! And always, thank you to those who choose to support the #StageIVTour and my ‘bucket list road trip’!

THE FIRST STATE

I’ve put together four legs of my #StageIVTour. They see me heading south, going across to the southwest, up the Pacific coast, and across the northwest and central US - with a possible dip, even, down toward the south again. (I’m also putting together a road trip for the Atlantic northeastern states, as well as a tour of the Great Lakes.) Unfortunately, even with all of those routes, it looks like Delaware isn’t one of the ones that will wind up on my itinerary. If that changes, I will certainly update it here. In the meantime, if you are from here and want to share with my why it’s a state not-to-be-missed on any ‘bucket list road trip’, please email me

THE SUNSHINE STATE

I lived in the state of Florida for nearly a decade, from 2006 until 2016. I’d moved there in part because I had happy memories of visiting as a tourist at age 10. But what they say is true - when you live somewhere, you don’t do the touristy stuff. All work and no play for most of those years, and very little real enjoyment of the state. I’m looking forward to returning as a tourist and seeing it all over again with different eyes.

I am hoping to return to Florida during the first leg of the #StageIVTour, which may happen as early as January 2022. I plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trippers and #Teslacamping experiences. If you’re from the state, or have visited in the past, I welcome tips and info - just email me! And, as always, thank you to those who choose to support the #StageIVTour and my ‘bucket list road trip’ - every dollar helps propel the dream.

THE PEACH STATE

I am hoping to visit Georgia during the first leg of the #StageIVTour, which may happen as early as January 2022. I plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trippers and #Teslacamping experiences. If you’re from the GA, or have visited in the past, I welcome tips and info - just email me! And, as always, thank you to those who choose to support the #StageIVTour and my ‘bucket list road trip’ - every dollar helps propel the dream.

THE GEM STATE

I am hoping to visit Idaho during the second leg of the #StageIVTour, tentatively slated for spring ’22. I may skip it and include it on my return leg back home. And, as always, thank you to those who choose to support the #StageIVTour and my ‘bucket list road trip’ - every dollar helps propel the dream.

THE LAND OF LINCOLN

I’ve driven to Chicago several times for events. I’ve never had enough time to really get to see or enjoy the scenery. It’s finally time…

I’d planned to visit this state during the ‘Dry Run Road Trip’ in June 2021. Instead my traveling companion and I found our adventure come to a screeching halt in Erie, PA when the Tesla was damaged by teens joyriding in a Walmart parking lot we’d chosen to spend the night in, and the Pennsylvania State Police turned out to be nothing more than ticket monkeys. Ugh! I am hoping to try again during a special ‘road trip’ of the Great Lakes-region states, tentatively scheduled for May or June 2022. (I may push this back based on COVID restrictions, attraction opening dates, and other factors).  plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla.

THE HOOSIER STATE

I’ve put together four legs of my #StageIVTour. They see me heading south, going across to the southwest, up the Pacific coast, and across the northwest and central US - with a possible dip, even, down toward the south again. (I’m also putting together a road trip for the Atlantic northeastern states, as well as a tour of the Great Lakes.) Unfortunately, even with all of those routes, it looks like I will likely only touch the northwestern tip of Indiana on my way through. If my route gets altered, I will certainly update it here. In the meantime, if you are from here and want to share with my why it’s a state not-to-be-missed on any ‘bucket list road trip’, please email me

THE CORN STATE

Tyson, one of my best friends, lives in Sioux City, IA. He’s visited my boat in New York five times, and I promise to make it out to visit his home in IA but - as yet - have never gotten around to making that trip. Until now…

I am hoping to visit Iowa during the fourth (and what may be final leg) of my road trip. This leg may be a quick return across the northern-most states as I head back to New York, or it may meander down into the southeast. Either way, I plan to journal as I go, so be sure to follow me on social media - I’m on all platforms as @StageIVTesla. Don’t forget to bookmark this page for more from the road - my plan is to update each state page with helpful information for future EV road trippers and #Teslacamping experiences. If you’re from the state, or have visited in the past, I welcome tips and info - just email me! THE SUNFLOWER STATE

I’ve put together four legs of my #StageIVTour. (I’m also putting together a road trip for the Atlantic northeastern states, as well as a tour of the Great Lakes.) Unfortunately, even with all of those routes, it looks like Kansas isn’t likely to be one of the ones that will wind up on my itinerary. If that changes, I will certainly update it here. In the meantime, if you are from here and want to share with my why it’s a state not-to-be-missed on any ‘bucket list road trip’, please email me

THE BLUEGRASS STATE

I am hoping to visit Kentucky during the fourth (and what may be final leg) of my road trip. The bridges in Sackinaw. Camping on the beach in Holland. So many things to see in Michigan - I can’t wait.

LAND OF 10,000 LAKES

I love the water. A state that bills itself as the ‘land of 10,000 lakes’ - sounds like a dream come true.

I’d planned to visit this state during the ‘Dry Run Road Trip’ in June 2021. And, as always, thank you to those who choose to support the #StageIVTour and my ‘bucket list road trip’ - every dollar helps propel the dream.

Planning

Any trip with an EV requires a degree of planning. With an ICE car, taking a trip is as simple as pulling out of the driveway and heading in the direction you want to go. There are 136,000 gas stations in the United States. There are fewer than 5,000 fast chargers for electric vehicles... planning is paramount in this journey… [Coming Soon].

Outfitting

I’ve never been much for tent camping. Even RV’ing - ‘glamping’, as friends call it - isn’t really for me. I’ve spent the night in hotels on previous road trips I’ve taken. On the other hand, I live on a boat - how hard can this car sleeping thing be? Still, I suspect that the right products might make it easier… time to go shopping! [Coming Soon].

Playlists

A memorable ‘road trip’ is nothing without the right soundtrack, right? My road trip, of course, will be no different. Trojan and I are masters of music compilation, with soundtracks for every occasion. For my Michigan drive, and for my longer trip expected to begin this fall, it’s time to assemble some tunes. Got any suggestions? [Coming Soon].

Dry Run!

Before I embark on a coast-to-coast road trip it might be a good idea to see if I even enjoy #RoadTripLife! In June 2021 my friend Ben flew to New York from Amsterdam for a 10-day+ visit on M/V WIN, the boat Trojan and I live on during the summer. While he was here, we took a mini-trip! Our original destination was Holland, MI; instead our trip came to a screeching halt in Erie, PA when we were involved in an overnight hit-and-run while #TeslaCamping in a Walmart parking lot.

Car Camping?

Tesla Camping is not for everyone. Especially doing it in a Walmart parking lot. Ready for my initial impressions?

Road Trip!!
